SOCHUM

Agenda

Exploring the living conditions of immigrants in host countries pertaining to minority violence.

About the Committee

The Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM) is one of the six principal organs of the General Assembly. It focuses on global issues regarding human rights and violations of the same. Established in 1945, the Third Committee convenes once every year to address the special procedures of the Human Rights Council. In this edition of the JBCN Oshiwara MUN, SOCHUM will probe the agenda “Exploring The Living Conditions of Immigrants in Host Countries Pertaining to Minority Violence”.

The issue of substandard living conditions for immigrants and refugees has plagued the world since the early nineteenth century and the OECD and EU countries have seen large gaps in immigrant and native incomes, living conditions, and literacy rates. In regards to the conference’s theme World 2024: War of Ideologies, it is time for you, the delegates, to take advantage of ideological ethics and negotiate using immigration policies and stances. The world has seen some of the worst immigration and living conditions policies including but not limited to regulations unable to curb overcrowding and mistreatment. As delegates of the Third Committee, you must strive to create a balance where natives and immigrants can live in harmony, ensure primary services such as food, water, shelter, and education are available, and reduce income disparity and literacy gaps while still abiding by country policies which have been a challenge for SOCHUM members since time immemorial.
