Agenda
Evaluating the practicality of developing sustainable cities to combat the effects of urbanisation.
About the committee

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to help achieve the eradication of poverty and inequality. The UNGA established the UNDP in 1966 and is present in over 177 countries with the vision of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This year at JBCNOSH MUN 2024, the UNDP committee will oversee the feasibility of creating sustainable cities to combat the effects of urbanization.
Urbanization is the increase in the proportion of people living in cities and towns. Rapid urban growth often leads to overcrowding, and straining infrastructure such as roads, public transportation, and utilities. Housing shortages have become common, resulting in environmental degradation and the proliferation of slums and informal settlements, where living conditions can be dire. The UNDP has developed strategies to mitigate the negative impacts of urbanization, yet these have not proven entirely effective. So delegates, it’s now in your hands to take charge and make sure that this committee functions and explores potential solutions to the ongoing crisis. We must examine the feasibility of sustainable cities, develop innovative solutions to manage urban growth and address issues such as pollution, transportation, and social inequality. By doing so, we can work towards creating urban environments that are not only livable but also resilient and inclusive.
